OpenXdata is a cutting-edge solution that revolutionizes surveys and studies by changing the way in which data collection, data management and data analysis is carried out.
With openXdata you create your own custom studies and forms, and enter respondents' answers to your questions accurately and quickly on the screen of any number of handheld computers and low cost mobile phones.
OpenXdata eliminates bulky paper questionnaires and subsequent data entry as well as costly errors related to manual data entry and the lack of validation of data at time of collection.
OpenXdata has applications in development work that include - but are not limited to - health care, education and humanitarian work. Service providers, researchers, program managers and program evaluators will find that using openXdata makes more efficient and cost-effective, the processes involved in the course of their work.
OpenXdata is the first FREE and completely OPEN SOURCE end-to-end solution of its kind that can run on both high- and low-end mobile devices and mobile phones.
OpenXdata is developed and supported through a global network of organizations and institutions.
OpenXdata makes data gathering easy through the user-friendly, transparent and effective technology that enables surveyors, researchers, program managers, program evaluators and service providers to prepare, collect, and interpret data faster and easier than ever before. Almost immediate availability of collected data improves the efficiency and the accuracy of studies and thereby also decision-making, program management and monitoring and evaluation functions.
OpenXdata utilizes the advantages of new mobile technology to improve data collection and handling processes. It has built-in validation and cross-checking features, including skipping and branching; multi-language studies can be designed with maximum reuse of translations.
Traditional methods of data collection and handling have several disadvantages. Paper forms cause duplication of processes, lack of efficiency and validation and no means of branching control at point of collection. Similarly web and e-mail forms require the user to be online for submission.
Design and management of data can be done using
openXdata - Manager, a powerful yet flexible web-based application that allows both experienced and novice researchers to easily design and manage multi-lingual forms that control the data collection activity in the field. There is no coding needed and powerful, easy to use wizards guide the process of setting up advanced validation rules, skip patterns / branching and the translation of the forms. Collected data can be viewed, edited, managed and exported to many common data formats.
Question Types supported include: Text, Numeric, Decimal, Date, Time, Date and Time, Boolean, Single Select, Multiple Select, Repeat (sub-form), Picture, Video, Audio and GPS.
OpenXdata provides powerful branching, validation and data-filtering functionality along with user management, reporting, automated export functionalities, multi-lingual forms.
Data storage: is handled through industry standard databases including mySql,
PostgreSQL , Microsoft SQL Server and Derby, giving a high level of protection against unwanted access to the collected data.
Data Collection: You can collect data with
openXdata Mobile on mobile devices and mobile phones. openXdata Mobile is a software solution that is specially designed for handheld computers and low-cost mobile phones.
Filling a form is easy; a user enters data using standard navigation and data-entry features of the device. The user interface (screen) is fast and responsive, with a structured easy-to-navigate layout. The user can freely move forward and backwards through questions on a form.
Global Positioning System (GPS/GIS): is a built-in or external device that calculates the exact geographical position based on signals received from at least 3 satellites. A GPS is used to track the geographical origin of a form collected with openXdata. The position of each form can later be projected onto a map using standard GIS software.
Data transmission: The transfer of the data is secure, fast, reliable and completely transparent to the user. Both distribution of forms and collection of responses is easily done through cable,
WiFi , GPRS, Infrared and even SMS and Bluetooth.
